Meeting October 22, 2007

Our next meeting will be at 6:45PM at the MAAC Charter School at 1385 Third Ave. (between Palomar and Quintard, east side of street) on MONDAY.  This will be a community meeting of all three community groups-SWCVCA, Northwest Civic Association and Crossroads II with City Manager David Garcia and several budget staff to discuss the proposed cuts to balance the city’s budget, which has a deficit of over 7 million dollars! He is giving the community a chance to express their opinions about closing a fire station, closing the libraries one day a week, and cutting 40 or more staff positions. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO TELL HIM WHAT CAN NOT BE CUT. The council will have a workshop on November 1 to discuss the cuts and vote on them by the 15th of November.

The new owners of the peaker power plant built in 2000 that is at the end of Albany near the Otay River very close to residents and the Otay Elementary School will be present. We need answers about pollution and ammonia trucks.

Please help get signatures on our petition insisting this plant be built further away from schools and residents. The California Energy Commission will be in town in November (time and place not yet confirmed) to take residents comments. The  CEC will decide.
