Meeting June 25, 2007
Our next
meeting will be at 6:45 at the MAAC Charter School at 1385 Third Ave.
(between Palomar and Quintard, east side of street) on MONDAY. After
polling most members over half wanted to switch to Mondays.
1. Come meet David Garcia our new City Manager. His first day was
6/11/07. He comes from Yuma, Arizona. He knows nothing about our city or
communities. It is our job to educate him about our unique needs and wishes for
the future.
2. Redevelopment
staff will give a short presentation and then be available to answer questions
and listen to our ideas about how redevelopment should take place. This is what
they plan to cover:
What is redevelopment?
Examples of successful redevelopment.
What is Tax Increment?
History of redevelopment in Chula Vista.
Where has the money been spent?
What project areas allow eminent domain?
What restriction on eminent domain exists
in the redevelopment plan?
Where has eminent domain been used by the
Agency?
What is the strategic direction of the
current agency?
What is the budget of the agency?
What projects are the agency involved in?
Where one can find information about the
Agency?
What happens in the redevelopment areas will affect all of us. The
over-development planned for the Urban Core could result in 331,000 more
vehicles daily on the freeways, 7,000 more homes, and 7.3 million square feet
more of commercial development. This obviously would negatively affect all of
us.
We are fortunate that 74% of the voters in Chula Vista approved
Proposition C. This protects us from eminent domain, but not from irresponsible
planning. Everyone needs to express their opinions about the future of the
southwest.
