Southwest Chula Vista Civic Association
(A
BRIGHTER FUTURE THROUGH COMMUNITY ACTION)
PO Box 6064,
Chula Vista, CA 91909, (619) 425-5771
This
month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday August 30 at 6:00PM at the South
Library on Orange and Fourth in room B which you can enter from the 4th
Ave. parking lot. The Girl Scouts got the room on Monday before us, so it is
now Tuesday for this month. There is no council meeting on the fifth Tuesday.
Should
Chula Vista have District Council people like San Diego? The Charter Review
Commission is now discussing whether to place changing the Charter to have
council people elected by Districts. Member of the Commission, the city
Attorney Glen Googins and Councilman Rudy Ramirez will be at our meeting to get
your opinions about this issue before a decision is made. Please come and let
them know how you feel. The SWCVCA Board has taken a
position in favor of this because we believe that it will make council races
cheaper and thereby encourage more people to run and there is a great advantage
to having someone who lives in our community representing us and advocating for
us. What happens in San Diego is residents first complain to their district
representative who then can take their case to the full council. Of course
everyone listens to everyone else’s issues because the support of two other
council people is necessary to get what your District wants.
What
happened?
1. July 19
The council approved an Historical Preservation Program. The first step will be
a survey.
2. On
August 9 the council approved a Code of Ethics for elected officials and
volunteers.
3 I
checked out the Farmer’s Market at Swiss Park, Monday 3-7 and there were only 4
tables. One selling gyros and the others selling vegetables at $3 per lb..
4. We were
at the Lemon Festival on August 7 and shared historic pictures with many
people. I will be videotaping stories from three more long time residents.
What will
happen?

Village Vibes Concert series Wednesdays from 6:30PM-8:30PM at Memorial Park:

2. On
Wednesday August 17 The Southwest Working Group will meet and discuss zoning
changes for the area between Palomar, Anita, Frontage and Industrial, including
Walnut and Trenton Sts. At 5:30PM at

3. On
August 24 at 6PM at 505 Garrett (off of H Street just west of the Courthouse)
