General Meeting 8/24/2009 at MAAC center, attendance: 70
1.Call to order 6:49 by Theresa
2 Motion to approve minutes of 7/27 made by Richard 2nd by Jim, passed.
3. Discussion of whether we want to continue community service projects and
fundraising for same.
4. 5 year redevelopment plan update and solicitation of suggestions.
5. Medical Marijuana Presentation by Theresa in
PowerPoint format including the following information: Our current city zoning
laws do not allow medical marijuana business, collectives or cooperatives.
Although proposition 215 allowed access to medical marijuana, the state left it
up to the cities to set policy on if or how this would be accomplished. We are
currently under a moratorium on any access in Chula Vista. In order to join a
collective a person must get a licensed physician recommendation and an ID card
from the county health dept. for $ 166.00
Discussion of the benefits included relief from some symptoms of HIV, multiple
sclerosis, migraines and arthritis. There are ongoing studies to verify
benefits.
6. Jose Preciado spoke on the issue of water rate hikes
and conservation efforts in the Sweetwater district. He urged many unhappy
Sweetwater customers to voice their opinion at Sweetwater
board meetings. Raises of 3.1% were allowed for
this year only for all employees in the district.
7. Raffle drawing to give away donated items and services held and it was
reported that a little over $ 200.00 was raised.
