Minutes from the General Meeting 3/23/09

                                                   MAAC Charter School

 

1.    Call to order at 6:55 by Theresa Acerro

 

2.    Approval of minutes 2/23/09 motion by Jim, 2nd by Doc, passed

 

3.    Reports: Theresa and Earl on stimulus monies coming to Chula Vista and possible projects that qualify including approx. 3.2 million dollars of Federal money to upgrade arterial streets. Also discussion of grant money applied for by fire dept. (2 stations and $15 million) and community block grants. Treasurers report read by Theresa: Assets of $1,456.85 and 88 total members.

 

4.    New business:                                                                                                         A. Chula Vista Police presentation of  CPTED (crime prevention through environmental design) by Angela Gaines and Richard. Highlights include landscaping ,lighting and design features to maximize visibility and create a perception of safety for occupants and a risk of detection for offenders.

B. Presentation by the Institute for Public Strategies on safe streets now. WWW.neighborhoodsafety@publicstrategies.org This organization will help citizens solve problems of drugs and alcohol abuse in their neighborhood using the California Civil Code. Process includes: a. documentation  b. notification  c. negotiation/mediation  d. litigation  

C. Shall we pursue a community garden for the Southwest? (to be continued)

D. City looking for volunteers to adopt a park. Needed guidelines for clarification

 

       6. Old business: Volunteers needed to help fix up a house and yard in the southwest through SWCVCA “PRIDEWORKS” program. May 2 please sign-up & refer neighbors.   Call 619-425-5771

        

7.  President asked all to please participate: on 4/13 at city council chambers at 4:00 pm 

                To show support for the presiding members decision to not permit the MMC

                Peaker power plant in proposed location

 

8.    Next month meeting 4/27/09 at the MAAC Charter School: agenda Solar Electricity presentation and city information on how they could help with financing May general meeting will be moved to the 3rd Thurs if this date is available.
