GENERAL MEETING of the SOUTHWEST CHULA VISTA CIVIC ASSOCIATION
JULY 28, 2008
MAAC CHARTER SCHOOL
  Attendance: 39

I:    Call to order at 6:55pm by President Theresa Acerro
II:    Minutes of June 23 General Meeting approved by a motion from Richard Pritchard, seconded by Willard Howard
        III:   Reports:  None
IV:  Oral Communication:  Theresa asked if anyone had anything they wanted to say or ideas for future meeting topics.  Sharon Floyd stated
she would like to hear about the Salt Works status.  This was discussed &
decided that we would invite someone to speak on this at the next general meeting.
V:   Old Business:  Theresa gave an update on the peaker plant.  The goal is to
have 2,000 signatures on petitions by the end of August to present to the CEC when the next meeting is scheduled. Petitions were made available, along with information sheets about the peaker plant.  Those wishing to sign petitions did so .
VI:   New Business:  Bayfront Project: Harbor District, Otay District, & the Sweetwater District were all presented in a Power Point Presentation given by Theresa.  This in-depth presentation explained the proposed building of structures,  infrastructure, changes in current usages, wildlife & nature impacts along with density, the lack of solving obvious problems such as traffic flow, resource protection, noise disruptions (train whistles) , etc.  The audience had serious concerns about who would pay for all of this, who had the ultimate responsibility for the bond commitment being met, & how we as taxpayers could voice informed opinions.  Another voiced concern was the architecture & compatibility with the culture of this area.  Information on how to do this was given by Theresa along with opinion sheets that could be used for this purpose.
VII:   Next general meeting will be at the MAAC Charter School on August 25 at
6:45pm.  Proposed agenda: Salt Works Status

VIII:  Meeting adjourned at 8:40pm, motion made by Ed Herrera, seconded by Karen Ratcliff.
