Minutes: January 28, 2008
1.
Call
to Order: Meeting was called to order by Theresa Acerro at 7:20 p.m., 30 present
2.
There
was discussion about the end of year report for 2007. Topics discussed, but not
limited to, were the following:
redevelopment, presentations, petitions, mobile home parks, and
donations of money, time, materials and meeting space.
3.
Theresa
announced that Councilman Rudy Ramirez will be holding a meeting at the Orange
Ave. Library regarding the Peaker Plant, the Hanson Cement Co., and other
environmental issues in the southwest. The meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 4th
at 6:00 p.m.
4.
There
was discussion concerning on-going issues for 2008. Topics included, but were
not limited to, the following: infrastructure, Bay Vista Walk, Mobile Home
Closure Ordinance, Peaker Plant, Western Salt Works, Code Enforcement,
Southwest Strengthening Strategies, and discussion to amend bylaws.

Scott
Tulloch announced an infrastructure workshop which will be on Feb. 7th,
at 6:00 p.m. in council chambers. The workshop will focus on areas around
schools, undergrounding projects, and funding.
2.
Ned
Ardagna volunteered to conduct a workshop to teach the community “How to do a
freedom of information request” from the city/county, etc.
3.
Norberto
Salazar suggested amendment of bylaws be tabled until brought before board in
Feb.
4.
Ned
Ardagna recommended generating a draft of amendment.
5.
Action:
Theresa Acerro motioned to accept the slate of nominees for board of
directors as listed, adding Hugo Salazar.
Seconded by Gloria Fontz. Motion passed.
Slate
of nominees: Theresa Acerro, Marcia Morris, Ken Coclasure, Bette Lupi, Earl
Jentz, Doc Howard, Norberto Salazar, Guillermo Briseno, Derrick Dudley, Steve
Palma and Hugo Salazar.
Karen
Ratliff and Olga Durazo to temporarily hold positions until filled or reduction
in number of board members is approved.
6.
Theresa
announced recirculation of petitions for Sweetwater and Chula Vista Elementary
School Districts/Board Members.
7.
Zach
Schlagel of UCSD discussed a personal community project at Harborside Park for
a proposed mural on the back of Wal-Mart. They are trying to get Wal-Mart to
pay for the project. Zach is asking for a letter of support from SWCVCA.
8.
Action:
Theresa motioned that the meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Olga Durazo. Motion
passed. Meeting adjourned at 8:45p.m.
