I: Call to order by President Theresa Acerro at 7:25pm
II: Roll call: Theresa, Ed, Earl, Jim, Doc, Rick, Bettie
III: Approval of minutes, May 28, 2009 meeting: Jim moved, Earl seconded,
carried
IV:Old business: Discussed projects for coming year, phone tree &
letter on Bayfront. We need ideas on how & where to use volunteers,
beginning in July. There will be groups coming from other areas &
also from the Apostolic Church here.
Ruth will do the phone tree.
Theresa will write Bayfront letter.
V: New Business: A: Ed made a motion that we invite Bob Garcia to
General Meeting to discuss feasibility of SWCVCA involvement in Solar
Energy Project, & consult with attorney on this. Jim seconded, motion
carried.
B: Doc made a motion that we carry through with Theresa's
proposed fund raiser at Fiesta Del Sol on
August 8 & 9. We would acknowledge donations of $1.00 with a ticket
that would be put in a drawing for a chance to win $100.00. We would work
with the Los Olympicos Soccer Team & share the profits, if they wished to
do this. Motion was seconded by Theresa, carried.
C: The urgency for attendance & participation in
the upcoming Southwest Specific Plan Meetings was stressed by Theresa. It
was also suggested that we define our nitch by involvement in southwest issues.
Dates & places are: July 11-Palomar Gateway & West Fairfield at the
County Health Building at the end of Oxford St. On July 25-Main Street
Otay Rec., August 1-SouthThird & South Broadway-Lauderbach Rec.
This will be discussed at the General Meeting on June 29 along with ways to get
flyers & information to residents.
D: The issue of the Southbay Power Plant will be
brought before the membership for decision on SWCVCA involvement.
E: There will be a speaker at the Monday meeting on a new
501c4.
VI: Manuel Medrano will speak on recycling at Monday meeting at the MAAC
Charter School at 6:45pm.
VII: Announcements: Ed asked for about 5 minutes to speak at Gen. Mtg. on
Monday regarding Budget Reform, Earl invited everyone to a July 4th
Celebration at his house, Earl also talked about a new formed group run by
Kevin O'Neal that deals with small businesses, etc. They will meet next
on July 18. Theresa suggested this was the same group that is revising
development procedures that Earl is already on. Apparently Kevin is the leader
of that group.
