1. Call to order at 6:53 by Theresa
2. Motion to approve minutes of August 24 made by Jim, 2nd by David, passed.
3. Discussion of upcoming holiday schedule and announcement of Oct. meeting to
include Dr. Farah on cancer prevention. Suggestion of invitation to the Border Patrol to a future meeting.
4. Presentation of Walk San Diego audit of
pedestrian issues around 32 elementary schools.
Goal is to identify and offer solutions to infrastructure problems and present
same to City Council. Some funding has already been attained
5. Presentation of the plan for a new park in the SDG&E right of way
adjacent to the Orange Ave. library.
A. First speaker Chula Vista Landscape Architect John Kriza
detailed the overall design incorporating a new fire
station, soccer field, possible off-leash dog park, restrooms and tot
lot. Funding for the park to come from utility franchise agreement and the
redevelopment agency.
B. Next speaker Jim Garcia of the Chula
Vista Fire Dept. detailed the design and need for a new station located
due east of the library. Funding to come from a federal
grant. Pledge to be a good neighbor in the area while answering 3,000
calls a year.
C. Community discussion of the park plan
included suggestions for a community garden
rather than dog park, natural grass versus artificial
turf, the fact that no permanent structure is allowed in the SDG&E
easement, traffic and safety issues. More information available at a meeting on
Oct.7 at the library at 6:00.
