General Meeting of Feb. 23rd, 2009

Maac Charter School, 23 in attendance

 

 

1. Call to order by president Theresa Acerro at 6:45 p.m. Introduction of guests and city employees.

 

2. Approval of minutes of Jan. 26, 2009 motion to approve by Jim Doud, 2nd by Rick Montanez-motion passed

 

3. “You Make a Difference” video shown

 

4. Theresa spoke on how all who volunteer their time and efforts for the benefit of community make a difference. Everyone present was honored individually for their part in making a difference including those whose employment it is to do so.

 

5. Special recognition and certificate given to those that volunteered at the yard sale fund raiser.

 

6. Motion brought by Theresa to give voting rights to associate members: Jackie Lancaster, Steve Pauka and Jerry Scott. 2nd by Jim Doud, Jim Headland, and David Danciu and passed unanimously.

 

7. David Hanreman, new fire chief presentation of basic facts re: fire department business. Example: 9 local fire stations, 113 active personnel, 23 support personnel, response times, types of equipment and fire engines/trucks. Paramedic contract with AMR. Discussion of community needs amid serious budget constraints.

 

8. New business topics discussed: parks, facelift project, peaker plant meeting 4/6/09 4:00 p.m. council chambers, WAL-MART mural.

 

9. Motion for SWCVCA to sponsor tax increase meeting March 9 at council chambers 7:00 p.m. by Doc, 2nd by Theresa seconded by Bettie, passed. 

 

10. Many new ideas for future 2009 agendas suggested by group: Recreation prescriptions, solar, elected officials, Environmental Design for Crime Prevention, Drought ordinance, Police, Energy Plan, Parks, Stimulus Money

 

11. Motion to adjourn by David, 2nd by Earl passed at 8:45 p.m. Next meeting March 23, 6:45 at MAAC Charter school, 1385 Third Ave.
