                         JANUARY 26, 2009
            ANNUAL MEETING, MAAC Charter School


1:  CALL TO ORDER:  At 6:50pm by President Theresa Acerro
2: MINUTES:  Of the November 4, 2008 meeting approved on a motion by Derrick & seconded by Jim Headland.
3:  Jim Sandoval, City Manager, gave a presentation on the proposed increase of the City Tax of 1%. Ballots will be mailed April 15, due May 5.  All the woes of the city deficit were iterated along with some built in securities of oversight on how the money will be spent & hiring a consultant to examine & maximize the use of the money. 
      Ed Herrera gave a rebuttal to the tax increase stating that the City Council had not given any ideas to alternative ways of solving the budget crisis.  He pointed out the first action is to raise taxes & that this in not acceptable in these difficult times when the State most likely will do the same & further burdening those who can least afford it. 
      A motion was made by Ed to oppose the tax proposal as it is now written.  Doc seconded this. This carried with 17 in favor, 2 abstaining and 4 voting NO.  There were 27 eligible voters present.  (Some declined to participate. Motion carried.
     4:  Mitch Thompson presented several ways that the Articles of SWCVCA could be amended to allow the organization to facilitate the buying of a mobile home park by its residents.  Papers were available explaining these options.
     5:  Those in attendance were asked for ideas or topics they would like for future meetings.  None given thus far. 
     6:  Action Item:  Should SWCVCA pursue grants, etc. for a program similar to Facelift? A motion was made by Dolores Dempsey & seconded by Sheldon Goldie to select one house to be done. 
      Motion carried.
     7: Meeting adjourned at 9:05pm on a motion made by Theresa & seconded by Ed.
